Other Items

* TIP - Don't insure your scooter with NRMA. My scooter was stolen July and it's now August, I'm still waiting :( (Next months tip - who to insure with once you lose your no claim bonus)

 * TIP - Rally 180 advice from Mike

Just some thoughts about the Rally 180 that you might like to pass on to prospective buyers.

I had one of these, and upgraded it to a Rally 200 electronic when they came out. Upgrade to a 200 is simple - if you can get a 200 piston and barrel.  Simply turn down the outer part of the cylinder that fits into the crankcase. Then switch over. But to get the beautiful performance of the Rally 200 you also need to upgrade the exhaust and carburettor - much more expensive.  Switching to electronic ignition involves getting the CDI unit and the stator backplate - not so easy, but Piaggio claim to be producing all spares for previous models. I expect the P-series one would fit, but don't quote me on this.

You can switch to 12-volt electrics by fitting two headlight coils in series connection. Quite simple. But then replace all the light bulbs, of course.  I also fitted indicator lights to mine, but that is another story. The Rally electronics are weird in that anything is switched off by shorting the circuit across it, not by breaking the circuit, so it is very difficult to fit any extras. I can't recall how I did it, but I do recall that the hooter didn't work when I was finished.  My converted Rally 200 Electronic was the best running scooter I have ever had. Beautiful, smooth acceleration in 4th gear from 50kph to over 100kph.  Very reliable. Never a back-fire once I had fitted the electronic ignition.  A very good looking Vespa, but not as beautiful as a GS150, of course.

* Aaron Burke akburke@ozemail.com.au - Help Request

I am wondering if you can help me. I have acquired a Lambretta Li Series 3, minus powertrain and a few other parts. It is need of these and a good restoration. Do you know anywhere who sells Lambretta parts, and what avenues I can pursue to chase engines and other parts, which obviously are not off the shelf items? Any assistance would be very appreciated. Oh yes, I forgot I am located in Sydney.  Also in regards to parts, I also have a Fuji Rabbit junior. This scooter is undergoing a long (over 2 years!) restoration and I am still chasing up parts. Do you know of anybody in either Sydney, NSW, Australia or even the world who has parts for these things. I don't need much, I only really need turn indicators, but some others parts would nice. Thanks for your time.
